Our keychains are compliant with the law in Australia which is quite strict.
You cannot carry anything that can be used proactively to defend yourself such as pepper spray, kuboton, taser, knuckle duster etc.
It also includes anything that is hidden or disguised. For example: a lipstick case with a hidden knife, a knuckle duster claiming to be a bottle opener or a decorative rope keychain that is actually a monkey's fist. Any of these things can result in confiscation and criminal charges.
Anything that you use to protect yourself has to be coincidental in nature, for example:
If you carry a heavy metal waterbottle and use this to swing at your attackers head then you have used your waterbottle coincidental to its purpose which is to carry water.
If you are on your way to baseball practice and use the bat to protect yourself then it is coincidental because you have a legitimate reason for carrying one at that time and place.
US citizens have the right to bear arms. Australians do not have this which can often be frustrating for women or any vulnerable person that has a safety concern.
This is why ordering keychains from the US (or some vendors in Australia) can get you into serious trouble. Some of their attachments are illegal here.
A few people on the internet have claimed that personal security alarms or rape alarms are not legal. They have incorrectly interpreted this weapon description from Australian Police:
“Devices designed to stun or disorient people by emitting noise and light. Any acoustic or light emitting anti-personal device that is designed to cause permanent or temporary incapacity or to otherwise disorientate persons".
This is referring to sound & flash grenades.
An alarm is designed to grab attention. If it disorientates your attacker then that is a secondary effect and not its main purpose.
All our inclusions have a purpose and don’t create unnecessary bulk on your wrist or arm. That’s why we don’t bother with stuff like lipgloss or hand sanitiser pouches. That is stuff for your bag and not something you want getting in your way of reaching for the important items.
